“ I would encourage people to sign up to be a foster carer because it is a very rewarding thing to do, children are our future, ” says Louisa. “ I can see that we have helped break the cycle, and if we can help with that, then we can help the next generation. Becoming a carer could be helping all of Australia, not just one child. ”
Louisa Castle didn’t choose to be a foster carer, the children chose her. The mother of two first signed up to become a foster carer 14 years ago after a young girl confided in her about being sexually abused by a relative.
“I became a foster carer so I can help more children, even if it is just giving them a safe home for a night or two." Louisa and Ian have provided respite and emergency care for children in need. Louisa said her own Aboriginal culture and heritage helps Indigenous children feel more comfortable in her home and help heal their emotional wounds.

Winning the hearts of two little vulnerable girls through foster care was the hardest and “best thing” they have ever done.
“ It is a comfort knowing Foster & Kinship Carers Association NT is there because I have been able to contact them a couple of times when we haven’t been sure about something or want clarification about things, ” Dom said.
