We are committed to Aboriginal people and their communities to grow our number of kinship carers so that children and young people can stay connected to their culture, country and language.

Why become a carer?

Becoming a carer is a big step but one that can make a huge difference to a child or young person’s life. Here’s what you need to know to make the right decision for you and your family.

There are lots of different types of foster care and some may suit your family more than others.

Foster and kinship carers are superheroes in our very own communities. They are people who look

after children and young people who, for lots of reasons, can’t live at home. If you have room in your home and your family for a child or young person in need, you could become a foster or kinship carer. There are lots of different types of foster care and some may suit your family more than others.

These can include:

  • emergency care – a few days help at short notice
  • short term care – a few weeks or months of care
  • long term care – can be until the young person has turned 18 years’ old
  • respite care – a few hours or days regularly or as needed to give carers a break
  • kinship care – care for family members

We are always looking for more people to become carers to support children and young people when they need it most.
